Studies show that there are at least 35 million single seniors living in the United States.
Older adults are vibrant, active and increasingly, looking for love. If you’re one of them, you deserve to find companionship and adoration as you enjoy your well-deserved golden years.
Today, we’re sharing five tips that can help you navigate the senior dating scene and find that special someone.
1. Structure is Key
An afternoon at the museum might sound exciting, but an hour can quickly turn into three or four if there is no set timeframe involved. Especially when you’re just getting to know someone, stick to short dates that last around an hour or two.
A morning coffee shop date is an ideal place to start! Plus, you’ll be somewhere safe, public and well-lit, which is always a plus.
2. Set Personal Boundaries
Don’t concern yourself with how your neighbor’s love life is going, or how many dates your single friends have been on. One of the greatest perks of getting older is caring less about what others think, and more about how your intuition feels.
If a date feels “off”, then respect this red flag, thank them for the time, and move on. You don’t have to share personal details with anyone just yet, especially ones that are intimate, such as an ED treatment you’re undergoing or menopausal changes you’re experiencing.
Set boundaries that you are comfortable with, and don’t let anyone pressure you to change them (or yourself).
3. Ask Friends and Family
One of the easiest places to find love? Senior dating sites are great, but a digital profile only says so much about you. On the other hand, your loved ones know your personality better than anyone.
Ask if they know of anyone who would be a good match for you. Does anyone share your interests, such as cooking or exercising? The old adage that opposites attract is only partially true, and finding common ground is key.
4. Check Your Community
Looking for someone to connect with? You don’t have to spend hours learning how to approach online dating for seniors.
Why not check at your place of worship or your local senior center? What about the places you currently volunteer? Think about where you already spend your time and consider if there is anyone there you’d like to date. This way, you already have a connection that you can build onto.
5. Consider Dating Services
In addition to online dating sites, you can also pursue offline matchmaking services if you’re more comfortable with that approach. With the latter, an expert will plan mixers or other social events for seniors to mingle with one another.
Online dating can be a little intimidating, and many seniors prefer to meet in person before moving forward with a date.
Senior Dating Can Be a New Start
Any approach you take, remember to take your time and don’t rush the process. It can take a while to find the perfect match, but senior dating can be exciting and enjoyable!
