The Do’s and Don’ts of Dating Advice

Are you worried about going on a date? Many Americans have anxiety about going on a date.

You’re probably asking yourself “what should I wear?” and “will they actually like me?” when you meet up with your date.

But, if you’re new to dating, then it’s not always clear what dating advice you should listen to and what you can ignore.

Check out our tips on the dos and don’ts of dating. Let’s get started!

1. Don’t Show Up Late / Do Arrive on Time

You might have heard that showing up fashionably late is cool. But, you’ll quickly discover that nobody enjoys being left waiting for you.

If you need any basic dating advice, make sure you show up in the right place at the right time.

2. Don’t Talk About Yourself Constantly / Do Show Genuine Interest in the Person

Who wants to go on a date with someone who simply talks about themselves all night? You need to remember to show an interest in the other person if you want them to like you back.

3. Don’t Get Your Phone Out / Do Put Your Phone Away

Most people are actually addicted to their smartphones. When you’re on a date, you shouldn’t be constantly checking your phone. Listen to what the other person is saying instead.

4. Don’t Underdress / Do Dress to Impress

Almost three-quarters of men say that they have dressed inappropriately at an event. Your dress sense isn’t everything on a date.

But, if you have to choose whether to go for the super formal look or the dressed-down appearance, choose the former. You want to avoid looking like you don’t care.

5. Don’t Use Cheesy Lines / Do Compliment Them

You’re on a date. It’s acceptable to say complimentary things about each other.

This could be anything from saying that you like how they’re dressed or commenting on their pretty eyes. However, avoiding cheesy pick-up lines is always wise.

6. Don’t Get Distracted / Do Make Eye Contact

If you find yourself getting distracted and looking around the room, bring yourself back to the eyes of the person sitting across from you.

When you make eye contact with someone else you appear more confident and interested in what they have to say.

7. Don’t Push it / Do Offer to Pay

While fewer people believe that the man should always pay nowadays, it’s still nice to offer. If you’re not sure who should pay, it’s always worth offering. It’s also common to split the bill down the middle today.
